One inexpensive ball made several creatures.

There is also a thicker yarn version, which would make nice pom-poms or creatures with thicker “fur.”

Some Simple Yarn Craft Ideas for Kids

You can “paint” with yarn, weave, and lace – make bracelets, animals, pictures, and more!

Yarn Painting

Supplies:

  • Yarn (I bought multi-color yarn and some solid, in different thicknesses, from the dollar store)
  • Sticky paper (Self-adhesive paper known by different names such as adhesive shelf-lining or contact paper – I also bought this at the dollar store)
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Hard surface (like a board or cardboard)

    Instructions for Yarn Painting

Remove the backing, and tape the contact paper, sticky side up, to a firm surface.

Start playing! Just cut up strips of yarn, stick to the paper, and re-arrange as you like.

You can make designs and use different colors and thicknesses to fill in gaps.

Or you can create a picture, like this sailboat one.
